JANUARY
Chip In for the Kids — Christmas Tree Recycle
This long running event provided seven high profile locations throughout Greater Victoria for residents to dispose of their Christmas Tree as well as the option of using our unique pick-up service. The 2008 event was very successful. $18,500 was raised in support of Easter Seal House Victoria. Many thanks to all the Lions and Lioness volunteers without whom this event could not take place.

MARCH
Dart-a-Thon
March 27-29, 2009 — The 32nd annual Dart-a-thon is a unique fundraiser in Victoria which has raised in excess of $275,000 since its inception in 1978. This event, coordinated by dedicated volunteer Donna May for the past 31 years, is organized by volunteers and supported by the business sector and public on Vancouver Island. Funds Raised at this event go to support Easter Seals Camp Shawnigan and Easter Seals Services on Vancouver Island.

During the Dart-a-thon, avid darters, friends, family, and community supporters play darts for an incredible 50 hours over 3 days. Funds are raised through pledges and fun games and the activities culminate with a silent and live auction on Sunday. Army & Navy Veterans provide a downtown venue for the event while the Royal Victoria Lioness provides food and refreshments.

Our thanks go out to Donna May and her tireless group!

Paddle to Port Angeles
Saturday, March 28, 2009 — Forty-eight members of the Victoria Canoe and Kayak Club paddle 50 nautical miles to Port Angeles and back, marking the exciting 27th anniversary of this incredible undertaking. This event has raised an amazing $190,000 over the past 26 years. Funds raised at this event go to support Easter Seals Camp Shawnigan and Easter Seals Services on Vancouver Island.

Supported by the Victoria Marine Rescue Society, the Canadian Naval Auxiliary and the Canadian Coast Guard, four voyageur canoes will leave the Gorge Waterway at 6am for the 12 hour journey. At midday the brigade will arrive at the U.S. Coast Guard station on Ediz Hook where the Port Angeles Lions Club will serve a fabulous lunch to the paddlers before their return trip to the Victoria Canoe and Kayak Club.

Event founder, Don Munroe, has worked tirelessly on this event for the past 25 years planning, training and fundraising for this one-of-a-kind event. As the only member who has participated in all 25 events, Don brings enthusiasm and inspiration to all who participate in the event.

Thanks Don, for giving children abilities!
